The Selection Process

Maintains and operates the city's water treatment system in a safe, effective, and efficient manner. Requires technical expertise. Duties include operating water treatment plant, taking samples of water, performing tests on samples, and maintaining facilities and equipment.
Essential Duties
Operates water treatment plant and wells in full compliance with departmental policies and procedures and state and federal regulations, and record-keeping.
Monitors all equipment and gauges at regular intervals, makes adjustments as needed and records data.
Adjusts gates, valves, and pumps as necessary.
Conducts control tests, including taking samples, and records data at regular intervals.
Performs routine analytical chemistry on water and wastewater samples, such as measuring turbidity, alkalinity, chlorine residual, pH balance, required compliance monitoring tests, and BOD, TSS, and other tests.
Maintains and repairs plant machinery and equipment, including pumps and filters; cleans and maintains facilities and grounds, including mowing the grass and cleaning the plant and/or lab; and
Prepares daily logs of plant operation and control.
May keep an inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment and notify supervisor when they need to be reordered.
May function as Sewer Plant Operator when staffing dictates.
Serves as essential emergency personnel when required.
Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position.
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Three years of experience in water production and operations or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Class C Surface Water and Class C in Wastewater Treatment Certification from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
