Manages the submittal and permitting processes for development applications as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides excellent customer service by providing information and assistance to customers, property owners, staff members, the public, or others regarding, applications, project reviews, procedures, or other issues.
- Uses strong interpersonal, negotiation, and customer service skills to work effectively with various officials, staff, citizens, and customers.
- Provides technical support to the Planning and Permitting Divisions by conducting research; complinig and summarizing data in oral, written and graphic form; preparing technical reports, reports on Division activity; maintaining records
- Manages the submitting applications assigned, workflow, timelines, and permitting processes for development applications as assigned.
- Coordinates the intake, recording and dissemination of various documents, requests, payments, plans, reports and other review items through the review process in an efficient and timely manner.
- Effectively communicates using written and oral communication, including presentations, and the editing, oversight, or preparation of technical and staff reports.
- Assist other staff in the processing of cases, including but not limited to researching and collecting background information, creating maps and exhibits.
- Enters permit data into computer systems; processes payment transactions, compiles documentation, and generates reports; maintains tracking system for all plans submitted from time of permit application to permit issuance.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: An associate degree with some advanced coursework at an accredited college in planning, engineering, or a related field is required. Knowledge of permitting and municipal ordinances is preferred. One (1) year of experience and/or training in customer service, municipal planning and permitting, and/or local government, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
- Knowledge of: business English, spelling, and punctuation; standard word processing and spreadsheet software; and modern office procedures and practices.
- Skill/Ability to: Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Work requires the ability to read and review site plans, building elevations, architectural and engineering plans, landscape plans, aerial maps, geographic information system maps, standard details, design manuals, general documents, ordinances, codes, reports, and correspondence. The ability to write general correspondence and clearly communicate code and ordinance requirements, code violations, plan deficiencies, and construction requirements or methods necessary to obtain compliance with the adopted codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
- Work Environment: Working conditions primarily involve a climate-controlled office environment with a high degree of public contact and field work in the form of property inspections. Fast-paced, high-volume office setting. Physical requirements include lifting up to 35 pounds rarely. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, and talking frequently; carrying, pushing/pulling, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, climbing, and balancing rarely.
