Job Description:
Assists with maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, curbs, and drainage systems, using light equipment and hand tools; occasionally using heavy equipment; performs routine maintenance and inspections of equipment used; performs traffic control at work sites; and assists in maintaining, planting and trimming grass, trees, and brush.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follows specific to general oral or written instructions on basic routines/tasks from an immediate supervisor or crew leader.
- Assists with maintenance of streets, sidewalks, gutters, and curbs by using overlays, cement, reinforcing steel, asphalt, sand, gravel, and patching compound.
- Assists with installation, repair, and maintenance of drainage pipes, catch basins, bridges, and related components.
- Tamps, packs, and levels dirt, asphalt, or other materials during pothole repair, reconstructing road shoulders, and crack sealing.
- Operates light equipment and hand tools, such as tractors, mowers, chainsaws, picks, etc.
- Occasionally operates backhoes, dump trucks, rollers, air hammers, or other light or heavy equipment.
- Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system, and performs other routine inspections on equipment used, to ensure vehicles are in proper working condition.
- Performs minor repairs on equipment used.
- Assists with clearing brush, traffic control, and cleaning of drainage ditches.
- Loads, transport, and unloads necessary materials for assigned projects.
- Assists with maintaining, planting, and/or trimming grass, trees, and brush.
- Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Assists with collecting brush and debris and loading onto truck.
- May assist other personnel in painting street signs, curbs, and stripes on roads.
- Serves as essential emergency personnel when required.

- Performs such other duties as may be required.
- Education: High school diploma or Possess GED. Experience: at least two (2) years of experience in the maintenance of roads, streets, and/or drainage systems or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Knowledge of: the safe operation of the equipment used and of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to operation of light and heavy motorized equipment; and methods, practices, material, and equipment used in street and drainage system maintenance.
- Skill/Ability to: understand and follow instructions; operate light and heavy motorized equipment effectively and safely; service and make minor repairs on equipment, applying safety standards to prevent hazards; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; and maintain valid Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record.
- Safety/Physical Requirements: Heavy. Tasks involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying, and using a force equal to ninety (90) pounds.
- Certifications & Licenses Required: Appropriate valid Texas Class C driver's license. Texas Class A or B CDL preferred. Training/Certificates: 4-hour flagger training (UTA CCT300, TEEX HWS110, or equivalent), 16-hour Signs & Pavement Markings (UTA CCT515, or equivalent) Preferred.
